Background

I grew up on the beautiful hebridean island of Tiree. It is a trek to get there, and often blowing a gale, but when the weather is still and the sun is shining there is no where on earth I’d rather be.

My interest in herbal medicine began when I met a herbalist called Jacqui Hazzard on the island when I was 14. She was there for a Well-Woman Weekend and spoke so eloquently about herbal medicines. I was completely fascinated. I was in awe of these magical healing plants and so began my love with herbal medicine.

"I have always been drawn to natural health care. Being able to find a plant, pick it, and make it into a healing medicine gives a special appreciation for the natural world."

Work Experience & Apprenticeship

My first initiation into the herbal world when I was 15 and I undertook work experience at Napiers.  I fell in love with the lotions and potions, the exotic smells and unusual teas. It felt like a strangely familiar place, quiet and serene, even though busy Byres road continued its hustle and bustle just outside. I decided then that I wanted to work in the shop and hopefully one day, be a herbalist in the clinic.

I did indeed go on to train and work as a herbalist within the company for almost 10 years. During my studies I worked there as a herbal dispenser and later moved up to assistant manager.  Something I am still very proud of to this day! Napier's sponsorship allowed me to take part in a rare apprenticeship which has been invaluable to both myself and my patients.
